    Description

Joe Louis vs. Max Schmeling Boxing Poster (Empire City, 1937). One Sheet (28" X 41").
In 1936, Heavyweight Champion Joe Louis had defeated all comers and thought very little of former champ Max Schmeling of Germany. After lax preparation for the fight, Louis found himself the victim of a crushing right hand to the jaw that secured the title for Schmeling and Nazi Germany. The stage was now set for the re-match, a fight that would have far-reaching implications as World War II loomed. This poster for the motion picture of the fight features both fighters as they appeared in their prime. It has wear at the folds and a crease in the lower right corner. There is also staining at the right edge and a single stain at the top. This is a remarkably rare item from the Golden Age of boxing. Fine+.
