Description
Alibi Ike (Warner Brothers, 1935). One Sheet (27" X 41"). "Alibi Ike" was the most successful film of Joe E. Brown's "baseball trilogy" -- the other two were "Elmer the Great" and "Fireman Save My Child" -- and one of the greatest baseball comedies in cinema history. Brown portrays an ace ballplayer who has a ready excuse for every circumstance that comes along, which earns him the nickname of "Alibi Ike." His alibiing habit soon gets him in trouble, however, when he falls in love with Olivia de Havilland and she walks out on him. Despondent, Brown goes into a slump, and is approached by a group of shady gamblers who try to get him to throw the World Series. The climatic finale has Brown escaping the gamblers and redeeming himself during the final game of the series. This poster has slight separation at the fold line intersections, pinholes in the corners, and one pinhole in Brown's collar. This rare one sheet has always had a tremendous appeal to baseball fans and cinema collectors alike. Very Fine. Please see full-color, enlargeable images above for more details.
