    Description

    Speakeasy (Fox, 1929). Folded, Fine+. One Sheet (28" X 41").
Presented for the first time at Heritage, this eye-catching one sheet features a fantastic Art Deco image with starring actress Lola Lane posing in the top left, rendered in stone litho printing. With the poster's title, cityscape background, and nightclub imagery, one might think this picture would have a plot about a jazz baby caught up in the Big Apple's seedy nightlife. In actuality, its a story about a determined reporter (Lane) who discovers that an up-and-coming prizefighter (Paul Page) is about to get double-crossed by his deceitful manager right before the big championship fight. Sharp-eyed fans watching the film should keep a lookout for a young John Wayne, who makes an appearance as an uncredited extra in one of the speakeasy scenes. This one sheet has such indications of handling as slight edge and fold wear, some fold separations, as well as mild creasing and misfolds. The poster also has pinholes, moderate tears, small chips, and thin slivers of paper loss at the edges. Also apparent are unobtrusive stains, smudging, soft surface rippling, and faint toning. There are a few pieces of archival tape bracing tears on the verso, in addition to strips of paper tape bracing the edges and folds with faint tape stain bleedthrough.
