    Description

Soviet Propaganda (1961). Russian Poster (23.5" X 45.5") "In the Name of Peace and Progress."
In a constant technological battle against their American rivals, the Soviet Union gained a head start in the early days of the space race with the successful 1957 launch of the very first orbiting satellite, Sputnik 1. They then developed a series of several satellites and probes in their frantic bid to explore what lay beyond Earth's atmosphere. This victorious poster honors several of these achievements, featuring not just Sputnik 1, but also Sputnik 2, Sputnik 3, Luna 1, and their most ambitious launch of the day, the Venera 1. This interplanetary probe to Venus brought dreams of travel to worlds beyond our own, and was an important first step in mankind's exploration of the stars. Touchup has been applied to pinholes in the outer edges and interior, a small chip in the upper right border, and a tear from the lower right border into the background. There is some touchup to several spots in the left image area. Fine/Very Fine on Linen.
