DescriptionSmilin' Through (First National, 1922). Very Fine- on Linen. One Sheet (27.25" X 41") Trio Style.
Producer Joe Schenck reportedly paid seventy-five thousand dollars, an enormous sum in those days, for the film rights to the Smilin' Through stage play written by Jane Murfin. The gamble paid off and was a success for his wife, leading lady Norma Talmadge, with a story that gained so much popularity that it would be remade twice in the next twenty years. This beautiful 1922 stone lithograph features "The Queen of Versatility" herself in her dual mother/daughter role, forming a trio with prolific silent stars Wyndham Standing and Alec B. Francis. In wonderful condition for its age, this one sheet has had professional touchup to nicks at the edges, mild creases, small pinholes in the upper borders, and fold wear. A few of these issues may still be visible, and there is some faint unaddressed staining in the borders at the vertical fold.
Estimate: $1,200 - $2,400.
