Description

Show of Shows (Warner Brothers, 1929). Title Lobby Card and Lobby Cards (6) (11" X 14").
This is the Warner Brothers 1929 extravaganza using most of the major stars under contract at that time. Terrific cards starting with the title card which features portraits of nine of the stars. There's a John Barrymore card with him playing Richard III, with an inset of the prologue with William Courtenay, H. B. Warner, and Hobart Bosworth. The "Pirate Scene" has Johnny Arthur, Noah Beery, Betty Compson, Ted Lewis, Tully Marshall, Bull Montana, Kalla Pasha, and somewhere in there, Wheeler Oakman! Georges Carpentier has his own card, as does Richard Barthelmess presenting the "Sister Acts" featuring Helene and Dolores Costello among others. The "Bicycle Scene" card has Douglas Fairbanks, Jr., Chester Morris, Gertrude Olmstead, and a very young Ann Sothern! That funny "Floradora Sextette" has Heinie Conklin, Alice Day, Lloyd Hamilton, Patsy Ruth Miller, Marion Nixon, and a young Myrna Loy! These cards have been cleaned and pressed, but not restored. They have tackholes in the borders and image, tears in the right border, chips in the bottom border of two cards, and a diagonal crease in one. Important early two-strip Technicolor process film. Fine.
