    Description

The Trail of the Octopus (Hallmark, 1919). One Sheet (27" X 41") Chapter 9 -- "The Chained Soul." From the Collection of Frank Buxton, of which the sale's proceeds will benefit The San Francisco Silent Film Festival.
This early silent serial - billed as "The Serial of a Thousand Thrills" - could have served as an inspiration for Indiana Jones. Ruggedly handsome master criminologist Carter Holmes (Ben F. Wilson) sets out to aid pretty Ruth Stanhope (Neva Gerber) in finding a collection of nine daggers that will point the way to an artifact of fabulous power. Along the way, they travel from San Francisco to Asia to Paris and back to America in a globe-trotting adventure involving devil worshippers, zombies, mad scientists, ray guns, asteroids, and more hair-raising cliffhangers than you can shake a tentacle at! Professional restoration to this fine stone litho piece has addressed fold wear, an extra horizontal fold at the bottom, and small chips in the borders. There were some mild tears and minor chips in the upper image area. Fine/Very Fine on Linen.
