Description
The Secret Four (Universal, 1921). Fine on Linen. Six Sheet (79" X 80") Episode 10-- "The Burning Pit."Universal City called upon the famous screen Hercules for feats of daring and examples of his colossal strength for this now lost 15-chapter serial. Written by Anthony W. Coldway, this series was based upon an international quest for oil starring Eddie Polo and Katherine Meyers. A strongman acrobat prior to joining Hollywood as a stuntman, Polo quickly drifted into films thanks to Laemmle's discovery and was forever dubbed "The Hercules of the Screen" after being cast opposite Grace Cunard in The Broken Coin. Never before offered at Heritage, this early Universal six sheet joins the archive along with the only Eddie Polo paper we've sold before; a six sheet for his earlier serial Do or Die. Restoration has been applied to fold wear, large tears, interior chipping and paper loss to Eddie's lower portrait, beneath the motorcycle wheel, and to the lower lettering. Additional conservation to creases and paper lifts. Some staining within the upper image still visible. A portion of the top border has been replaced with each having been airbrushed.
