Description
The Adventures of Robinson Crusoe (Universal, 1922). Very Fine+ on Linen. One Sheet (27" X 41") Chapter 5 -- "The Ship of Despair."The Adventures of Robinson Crusoe is a pioneering silent film serial based on Daniel Defoe's classic novel about a castaway struggling to survive on a deserted island. While not the first adaptation, this 18-chapter serial was considered one of the most faithful representations of the story at the time of its release. Directed by Robert F. Hill, it features Harry Myers in the role of Robinson Crusoe and Noble Johnson as Friday. Johnson, a pioneering Black actor in early Hollywood, had a prolific career spanning several decades, with over a hundred credits, including The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, The Thief of Bagdad, Moby Dick, The Mummy, and King Kong. The serial follows Crusoe's journey as he battles the elements, encounters native inhabitants, and ultimately seeks rescue. Presented here is the fifth chapter of the serial, a lovely stone litho poster that has not been restored, which features by far the best image of Noble Johnson among the known serial one sheets - he doesn't even appear in most of them! There was only light fold wear before linen backing.
