Description

Things to Come (United Artists, 1936). British Crown (12.5" X 20").
Perhaps nothing excites poster collectors more than the phrase.."..only a couple of known copies." That phrase holds true for this incredible lot, so prepare to be excited...we are! This is the 21 February 1936, Leicester Sq. Theatre, London Premiere, country-of-origin, small British crown style poster, for a most important film in the development of the science fiction genre. It features great art of Raymond Massey as John Cabal, a member of Wings Over the World, as he makes his first appearance in the shattered city of Everytown. It's a key point in the film, and is reminiscent of one of the U.S. issued lobby cards, which many consider one of the best in the set. The art deco layout and the stoic countenance of Massey standing authoritatively in his "modern" flight suit, combine for a chilling and effective image. The poster had top linenbacking and minimal restoration for just a few pinholes in the corners and top center, and very small tears in the right border. You don't need to be able to see into the future to know that one of the "things to come" is spirited bidding for this top country-of-origin poster. Very Fine on Linen.
