Description

The War of the Worlds (Paramount, 1953). Six Sheet (79" X 80.5"). From the Collection of Bruce Willis.
H.G. Wells' definitive Martian invasion tale is, without a doubt, one of the most influential works in the history of science fiction. The classic story of Earth's battle with beings from Mars has been adapted several times over multiple forms of media, including a television series, a famous radio drama by Orson Welles, comic books, and motion pictures. Of all the film versions, it is director Byron Haskin's take that truly stands out. Featuring ground breaking special effects by George Pal (for which he would earn an Academy Award), along with the acting talents of Gene Barry, Ann Robinson, and Les Tremayne, the film still manages to terrify and thrill audiences of all ages. Paper of this size from the film is quite rare, as far fewer six sheets were produced than one sheets. Prior to restoration, this poster had some crossfold separation with minor chipping, chips in the upper horizontal fold, a small chip to the left of the alien claw, and a vertical tear in the title. Touchup work has been done to the folds. There is a post restoration stain on the lower verso that slightly affects the bottom border, but does not bleed through the image. Making for an overwhelmingly grand display, this dramatic poster would look absolutely stunning behind a frame. Truly, this is a rare opportunity not to be missed by serious collectors. Fine+ on Linen. From the collection of actor Bruce Willis, whose credits include the Die Hard franchise, 12 Monkeys, The Fifth Element, The Sixth Sense, and more.
