Description

The Day the Earth Stood Still (20th Century Fox, 1951). Six Sheet (79.5" X 80.25").
Already a desirable item for the title alone, Heritage has the exciting opportunity to present an incredibly rare six sheet for the first time. With a political metaphor hidden in the trappings of a thrilling alien adventure, The Day the Earth Stood Still had a lasting influence on numerous future science fiction entries, as well as a subtle impact in the minds of Cold War era audience members. The film is also notable as featuring the first major robot (Gort) to appear in the genre during the 1950s, and the only robot of any significance since Fritz Lang's Metropolis in 1927. He's prominently featured here in this fantastic piece of large format paper, which shows some fold wear with mild fold separations and a few small crossfold chips. There are pieces of cellophane tape on the verso of one of the panels, and there is a tear along a vertical fold to the right that extends almost to the woman's elbow, which also has been very well repaired with archival tape on the verso. The vast majority of the poster is in wonderful condition, and gives this iconic image new impact with its gigantic size. Heritage will be happy to send the poster for linen backing and assembly at the buyer's expense. This is a wonderful opportunity to add a cornerstone piece to a great science fiction film poster collection. Folded, Very Fine-.
