The Day the Earth Stood Still (20th Century Fox, 1951). One Sheet (27" X 41").
Regarded as one of the greatest science fiction films ever made, Robert Wise's classic set the bar for all other entries in the genre. A former editor for Orson Welles, Wise brilliantly instilled within the film a political subtext that reflected the anxieties of post-WWII America. Klaatu (Michael Rennie), a soft-spoken interplanetary traveler, brings forth a message of peace or destruction for Earthlings. The destruction part is personified by his robot bodyguard Gort, who can (and does) emit death rays when threatened. Always in popular demand, this classic one sheet has had partial touchup to the folds, pinholes, and small chips and tears in the borders. Some of these issues are not fully addressed. There was a chip to the left of the vertical fold in the giant hand and some writing and ink stamp bleedthrough in the top border. The poster has post-restoration dust shadows in the borders.
