Panic ensues throughout Washington, D.C. when a spacecraft lands near the White House in this wildly popular film from 1951. Klaatu (Michael Rennie), a soft-spoken interplanetary traveler, has come with a message for Earthlings, along with his "bodyguard" Gort, a robot who emits death rays when danger threatens. Robert Wise (an editor for Orson Welles who became a fine director in his own right) directs this classic that instilled within the genre a political subtext that reflected the anxieties of post-WWII America. Hysteria fills the one sheet too, from the screams of Patricia Neal to the scattered masses below Gort's foot. Collectors will be thrilled with this copy, as it shows only the most minor crossfold separation. Very Fine+.
