One of Roger Corman's earliest ventures into science fiction, it was reportedly produced for the low cost of $33,000. Shot primarily in the California desert, using a minimal cast and crew to keep costs down, the alien was initially conceived as invisible, with its influence shown only through possessed animals and humans. When distributors demanded a visible monster, a rubber creature was hastily added for the finale. Most interiors were filmed in a single house, while existing props and vehicles were reused from other low-budget projects. The poster has some minor corner and edge bumping, a couple of soft creases in the upper panel, and dust shadow in the upper right border as well as light smudging.
