Star Wars (TCF, 1976). Rolled, Fine/Very Fine. Promotional Poster (20" X 29") Howard Chaykin Artwork. Never distributed to theaters, this exceptionally rare Star Wars poster, designed by comic artist Howard Chaykin, was printed in the summer of 1976 for sale exclusively at San Diego Comic-Con and WorldCon in Kansas City, generating early buzz months before the film's release. Chaykin, a Marvel Comics artist, created the artwork using a limited selection of stills and paintings by legendary concept artist Ralph McQuarrie, who also designed the early Star Wars logo featured on the poster. Measuring 20" X 29", the bottom of the poster bears the inscription: "Poster 1 1st Edition Artist: Howard Chaykin Luke Skywalker The Star Wars Corporation 1976." With only about a thousand printed and a limited number known to have survived, this piece has become a holy grail of Star Wars memorabilia, making it one of the most coveted collectibles in the franchise's history. Some signs of age and wear are perceptible, such as slight creases and edge wear, corner bends, light smudges and scuffs, printing offset, minor chips and tears along the borders, and a few light stains.
