In the early 1970s, following the success of American Graffiti, George Lucas set out to create a space fantasy inspired by the Flash Gordon serials he loved as a child. Drawing on influences such as Akira Kurosawa's The Hidden Fortress and Joseph Campbell's The Hero with a Thousand Faces, Lucas began crafting what would eventually become Star Wars. Over several years, he developed and expanded the script, gradually building a rich universe filled with Jedi knights, the Empire, and the mystical Force. Lucas pitched the project to several studios before 20th Century Fox agreed to finance it, albeit with hesitation and a modest $11 million budget. Studio executives were doubtful and expected the film to fail. Against all expectations, however, Star Wars became a massive success upon its release, launching a cultural phenomenon and evolving into one of the most valuable franchises in cinema history. This rare six sheet has only some light toning on the fold lines of the top portion of the left section, and is otherwise unblemished. Comes in two panels as issued.
