Description

Star Trek: The Next Generation, Qo'noS First City by Syd Dutton (Paramount, 1990). Fine/Very Fine. Original Screen-Used Matte Painting on Board (96" X 48") Episode 3x17 -- "Sins of the Father."
A treat for any Star Trek fan and a premiere offering from Heritage, this extremely detailed matte painting depicts the capital of the Klingon homeworld of Qo'NoS as seen in the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode, "Sins of the Father." The iconic Great Hall and sprawling, spired Klingon architecture is for sure an instantly recognizable image for any Trekkie, painted with exceptional skill by Syd Dutton from the Illusion Arts matte painting studio. To add an extra effect to the piece's already spectacularly rendered lighting, the painting was created with a series of holes drilled into the illustration for backlighting, as well as a plexiglass cutout window inside the Great Hall, which would have live-action footage spliced into the scene. Truly impressive when viewed in person, the painting has a few scuffs, scratches, and minor surface lifts. There are small pieces of tape and tape remnants near the edges, but these are most likely from production. An exceptional piece even without context, this one-of-a-kind illustration should be a top priority for die-hard Trekkies. Due to the size/weight of this lot, shipping costs may be higher than usual.
