Description
Metropolis (UFA, 1929). Very Fine/Near Mint. First Release Japanese B5 Chirashi (7" X 10").Metropolis. The name of the film alone brings instant recognition among film historians, fans and collectors as the greatest science fiction film of the silent era. It would certainly go on to inspire generations of film makers after it's release in 1927. Besides the tremendous set designs and special effects, the film would also give the world it's most amazing robot; the Maschinenmensch. And here on the front side of this amazing Japanese handbill, is the robot itself, also known as Hel, the False Maria or Futura. This is truly a significant piece of cinematic history and a first time offer from Heritage. Starring Alfred Abel, Gustav Frohlich, Brigitte Helm, Rudolf Klein-Rogge, Fritz Rasp, Theodor Loos, Erwin Biswanger and Heinrich George. The film was directed by Fritz Lang from a screenplay by Thea von Harbou. While virtually unused, this handbill does show signs of slightly uneven edge along one side when originally cut at the printers. This very rare piece has the release date of April 3, 1929 printed in Japanese on it.
