Fritz Lang's masterpiece presents a dystopian world that would influence films into the 21st century. Surprising, then, that the film has suffered from a myriad of worst-case scenarios: the worst endorsement for a film (by Adolf Hitler), the worst financial performance (it cost so much that it nearly sent the studio, Universum Film, into bankruptcy) and the worst preservation (nearly a quarter of it has been lost since its release). Fortunately, the film endures as one of the best of all time, and this original German language program reminds affirms this. The program recounts in both text and art the ambitiously allegorical story of two worlds, the thinkers and the laborers. Light soiling and .25 tear at the lower right, and 1.25" faint pencil line on the back. Also included is an original September-October 1927 issue of Photo Cine, with a cover and center spread image from Metropolis. Folded heavily at the center, vertically.
