    Description

Godzilla (Toho, 1956). One Sheet (27" X 41"). By 1954, the world had seen dozens of nuclear tests and were very aware of the mutating effects of radiation. Hollywood capitalized on these fears by starting a whole series of horror films featuring "giant" ants, mantis, scorpions, tarantulas, etc. Not to be outdone though, were the Japanese. Their entry into the "giant" mutated monster came in the shape of a resurrected pre-historic lizard by the name of Godzilla! The King of the Monsters became so popular that he went on to make dozens of sequels. The posters for his first appearance are some of the most sought after and the images are considered some of the best of the horror/sci-fi posters from the 1950s. This particular example is unique since it has had the title, "Godzilla (Gojira)" written on it in silver point and the actor who trampled Tokyo dozens of times in the Godzilla costume, Ryosaku Takasugi, has signed the poster as well. Fine on Linen.
