    Description

    Godzilla (Toho, 1954). Regional Japanese B2 (21" X 30.5") Style B.
An exciting opportunity for sci-fi and monster fans, we are proud to present this exceedingly scarce, country of origin, style B Japanese B2, an item we have only had the pleasure to sell once before. Widely considered penultimate king of the creature genre with his numerous sequels, spinoffs, and reboots, its difficult to imagine that several Japanese critics originally panned the world's favorite reptilian terror at his first release, dubbing portrayed similarities to the horrific bombings at Hiroshima and Nagasaki as gross exploitation. It wasn't until the film reached the US and developed its rapid popularity that homeland critics began to change their tune, giving praise to Godzilla's metaphorical embodiment of the atomic bomb's terrifying destructive power, exposing Cold War audiences across the globe to the infinite dangers of a weapon capable of such widespread annihilation. Certainly a much sought after item by collectors, this fantastic chihoban or regional style poster has touchup applied to small tears in the bottom border, small scuffs in the upper background and imprint area, and some touchup to the upper background. The left, right ,and top borders and a thin strip of the upper background have been replaced. There are a few faint spots that are visible in the background and title area. More rare than the standard release Japanese poster. Fine+ on Linen.
