Description
Godzilla (Toho, 1954). Japanese B2 Poster (20" X 28.5"). In 1954, Toho Studios introduced what was to become the longest-running film series in history; 28 films to date and featuring one of the most famous screen monsters of cinematic history. The creature was unleashed in Japanese theaters in 1954, three years before the heavily edited version hit American screens with added American footage starring Raymond Burr. So why wasn't the Japanese version shown here? The film is a trenchant anti-war and anti-nuclear testing screed that would have been way out of sync with the Cold War vibe of mid-'50s America. Offered here is the original 1954 Japanese one sheet. This is the first time any poster has been offered in an American auction from this original 1954 release, let alone the impossible to find original Japanese one sheet! This poster is in amazingly clean shape. The poster was folded at one time, but there is very little wear to the fold lines. There has been no restoration performed on this poster and its condition is Very Fine+.Heritage Auctions provides as much information as possible but strongly encourages in-person inspection. Condition statements are offered as general guidance only, not as complete representations of fact, and do not constitute a warranty or assumption of liability by Heritage. Some condition issues may not be noted but may be visible in the photos, which are considered part of the condition report. Lots estimated at $1,000 or less are not de-framed for inspection, and we may be unable to provide additional details for lots valued under $500. Heritage does not guarantee the condition of frames and is not liable for damage to frames, glass/acrylic coverings, original boxes, display accessories, or artwork that has shifted in the frame. All lots are sold "AS IS" under our Terms & Conditions of Auction.
