    Description

    Godzilla (Atrium Film, 1956). German A1 (24" X 34").
The German release of this science fiction classic had two distributors in 1956, Atrium Film for the Southern part of Germany, Lehmacher Film for the North. This poster hails from the Southern region and sports the German censor stamp in the lower left. Of this Toho Studio blockbuster, Godzilla only destroyed Tokyo in his initial outing, but his roar was heard around the world, with releases in Germany, Poland, Argentina, Belgium, Mexico, Spain and Sweden, to name just a few. Destined to become one of the most successful franchises in movie history, this first film was a dark nuclear fable, with the monster cast as a stand-in for the atomic bomb, and his rampage an analogy for the destruction wrought on Hiroshima and Nagasaki by "Fat Man" and "Little Boy." This gorgeous German poster features artwork different from that seen anywhere else, with Godzilla chomping on a train and spreading terror with every step of his large, scaly feet. There is light creasing, pinholes in the borders and a small nick in the left border. Very Fine- on Paper.
