Description
Blade Runner (Warner Bros., 1982). Very Fine. Script (141 Pages, 8.5" X 11").Once it was released in 1968, there was considerable interest in adapting Philip K. Dick's Do Androids Dream of Electric Sleep? Martin Scorsese spoke up about filming the novel, but never optioned it. Producer Herb Jaffe did option it in the early 1970s, but Dick was so unimpressed with the screenplay written by Jaffe's son that he threated to beat him up. Finally actor Hampton Fancher optioned and wrote a draft in 1977, with Ridley Scott signing on to direct it. While Fancher's script focused more on issues of the environment than humanity, Scott demanded changes. He changed the title to Blade Runner, taken from a film treatment of Alan E. Nourse's novel The Bladerunner, and eventually hired David Peoples to rewrite the script, though Fancher contributed to additional rewrites. Although Dick was initially distrustful of Hollywood and critical of the original script, he was pleased with the rewrites and the 20-minute special effects test reel that was screened for him before he died. Offered here is the rewritten script by Fancher and Peoples, showing minor signs of use. There are slight creases and smudges on the front cover, with the interior pages very clean. Fans of the cult classic are not to miss this unique item.
