Description

Alien by Alan E. Cober (c. 1978). Fine+ on Foam Core. Poster Concept Design with Transparency Overlay (22" X 15.75").
When Alien hit theaters in 1979, the monster on screen was unlike anything moviegoers had ever seen. The feature's deadly, parasitic Xenomorph was terrifying and grotesque, yet graceful and stunning. Swiss artist H.R. Giger worked on the film's entire production design and provided a morbid biology-meets-industrial touch winning the Academy Award for special effects for his biomechanical alien creation. Although the poster design for the film is familiar to most fans as a simple and minimalist design, the studio hired several artists to create concept art before settling on a final decision. Offered here for the first time is a one sheet concept design created by renowned New York illustrator Alan E. Cober, no doubt inspired by Giger's alien creation. One of the most innovative illustrators America has ever produced, Cober was inducted into the Illustration Hall of Fame in 2011, thirteen years after his death and a lifetime of artistic achievements. The design comes with a transparency overlay featuring a tagline and bold typography in white. Adhered to illustration foam core, the image shows signs of toning, a few creases, minor scuffs, and image ghosting transfer from the attached overlay. The poster including its foam core measures 25" X 17.5".
