2001: A Space Odyssey (MGM, 1968). Folded, Very Fine. One Sheet (27" X 41") Psychedelic Eye Style.
When MGM decided to revamp the advertising campaign for this blockbuster film in 1969, they chose to use the psychedelic imagery from the film's "Stargate" segment for the movie's 70 mm relaunch in New York. Specifically, they used the design primarily on a small run of wilding posters that were pasted up about town directly on walls, fences, and construction sites. Some of the "Eye" posters were displayed at the Ziegfeld Theatre, but as an image secondary to the more used "Star Child" designs, and the "Eye" image was never used for newspaper ads or any other major advertisements. It is therefore the most consistently sought after poster for fans of Kubrick's "Ultimate Trip," and deservedly so. The original printing of the "Eye" and "Star Child" posters have no NSS or other information in the bottom border, as they were created in rush time, not knowing if the campaign would take. Truly one of the most coveted posters of the 1960s. This example appears to have never been posted, though exhibits expected trace fold and junction wear, and very light marginal creasing, merely from folding and storage handling.
