    Description

Scarface (Guaranteed Pictures, R-1940s). Argentinean One Sheet (29" X 43").
Paul Muni blazed a bullet-riddled path across the screen in Howard Hughes' highly acclaimed gangster classic of 1932. The controversy caused by the film upon its release, and the claim that it glorified gangsters, forced the Hays Commission to require the addendum "The Shame of a Nation" to the film's original title to be overprinted on some of the various poster formats. The striking Argentinean one sheet offered here has no such overprint, but it does have a magnificent image of Muni, his finger hovering ominously over the trigger of his gun. Artist Osvaldo Venturi is credited with creating this exquisite homage to one of the most impressive gangster films ever made. Professional restoration has addressed tears in the top border that extend into "Muni" and the hat, a tear in the upper right into "Paul", and a tear in the left and right border into the background. The poster had chips in the borders and one in Muni's hand. The borders have been airbrushed, and writing on the gun is still slightly visible. A unique find and the first time we have offered this poster, this display-ready poster will make an excellent addition to any collection. Fine on Linen.
