Salon de L'Automobile et du Cycle (1910). French Advertising Poster (28.25" X 39.75") Gaston Simodes de Fonseca Artwork.
The Paris Motor Show, an event created by Albert de Dion in 1898, (still the largest car show in the world today) was held annually to display the latest in car designs and innovations from the auto makers. Starting in 1910, the show was held in the Grand Palais (the large yellow building in the background). This stunning poster was designed by Gaston de Fonseca to herald the event and features some spectacular art with motorists zipping by the Winged Horse monument near the Alexander III bridge. There has been partial restoration to fold wear with a few tears, pinholes in the borders, and mild chips and tears in the borders. Some of these extended slightly into the background, and there were some minor bits of paper loss in the interior. The poster had a larger chip in the lower border and image area, as well as a 7" tear from the left border into the background. Some of these issues are still visible. The poster has some unaddressed smudging, stains, and a tax stamp at the top. It was once backed on another surface with remnants on the verso, most of which are not visible. The linen has been trimmed to the borders, and slightly into the top border. Fine+ on Linen.
