Rose of Washington Square (20th Century Fox, 1939). Three Sheet (41" X 81") Style B.
In 1937, both George Gershwin and Cole porter called Alice Faye..."The best female singer in Hollywood." In this absolutely gorgeous three sheet (a rare Style B), she is starred for the last time with friend, Tyrone Power. It was Faye's insistence that he be tested for better roles, just three years earlier, when Power was working as an extra on the Fox lot. The poster features Faye in both a beautiful large portrait with Power, and a terrific side image of her, singing against the lamp post, with musical notes swirling around her. As a bonus, the poster has one of the campaign's best images of Al Jolson, in his famous minstrel make-up, in the lower right. There are staple holes in the borders and image, edge wear at the top, and stains at the bottom. The bottom edge has some tears, there's foldwear with crossfold separations, and clear and paper tape on the verso. There are small chips in the bottom edge. A lovely poster (probably the work of Frederic C. Madan), that still displays well. From the collection of Wade Williams. Fine-.
