Description

    Rope (Warner Brothers, 1956). First Release Italian 4 - Foglio (55" X 78").
Filmed with long takes and virtually no obvious "cuts," Ropewas one of Hitchcock's most experimental films, his first in color, and one of the fabled "Lost Five" that went unseen for many years due to rights issues. Loosely based on the Leopold-Loeb case, it concerns a pair of amoral students (Farley Granger and John Dall) who murder a classmate for fun, stash his body in a chest, and then stage a dinner party. James Stewart plays their professor and intellectual role model. Artist Luigi Martinati did two paintings for this first Italian release. This one and the one used on the 2 foglio, which Heritage sold last year. Both are outstanding likenesses of the star and are perhaps the best posters released for the film, though this larger style is taken from the U.S. one sheet. The poster has been mounted on linen with no touchup. There is a bottom left and top right corner chip, chip in the left border, tape stain in the bottom border, stain in the "t" of "Stewart," a tear in the top left border that extends to Stewart's head with a tape stain, misfolds, pinholes in the borders, and chips along the folds and at the crossfolds. Fine- on Linen.

Today I received the catalog which is a work of art unto itself. When I found my lot I was literally blown away by what Craig had done with the presentation....... quite amazing to say the least!
