Description

The Sheik (Paramount, 1921). Very Fine-. Herald (6.5" X 8.5").
Silent film suave and heartthrob Rudolph Valentino, through his career and personal life, played an instrumental role in challenging prevailing masculine stereotypes in Hollywood. He introduced a more complex, nuanced leading male figure, characterized by an otherworldly charm and a certain "feminine" allure alongside traditional masculine confidence. Valentino's off-screen life, plagued by many rumors about his sexuality, further cemented his connection with the LGBTQIA+ community, as he was assumed by some to be among the early closeted gay actors of Hollywood. His legendary cinematic persona and enduring cultural impact continue to inform discussions around male sexuality, offering a unique perspective within the LGBTQIA+ community's interaction with film and celebrity.

Starring Rudolph Valentino, Agnes Ayres, Ruth Miller, George Waggner, Frank Butler, Adolphe Menjou, Walter Long, and Loretta Young. Directed by George Melford. An unrestored herald with bright color and a clean overall appearance. It may have general signs of use, such as light edge wear, a few slight creases, unobtrusive smudges, or a minor tear along the left border that partially reaches into the image.
