    Description

The Painted Veil (MGM, 1933). Original Aris Bacci Art Concept Gouache Painting on Cardstock (12" X 19").
Hailing from the controversial artistic school of Futurism, Aristide "Aris" Bacci gained his commercial start as an intimate of renown automobile designer Ettore Bugatti, becoming his artistic advisor and ad director for the famed Bugatti line in the 1920s. Bacci's career crossed the pond from Europe to Hollywood later in the decade, first creating designs at Warner Brothers Studios, then branching out to Paramount and MGM where he produced splendid and stylized artwork for such films as The Ziegfeld Follies and the acclaimed Lillian Gish feature,The Wind. This exquisite gouache painting deviates from Bacci's swooping modern lines and sharp angles for a softer approach, bestowing an Impressionist touch to this stunning portrait of the lovely Greta Garbo. Though never used in any official advertisements for The Painted Veil, this beautiful concept rendering draws direct inspiration from Garbo's 1931 role of Susan Lennox as captured through the lens of the great photographer Clarence Sinclair Bull. The painting's brilliant colors instantly catch the eye and look beautiful on display, with no noticeable wear apparent aside from what is typical of the creative process. Very Fine+.
