    Smilin' Through (MGM, R-1935). One Sheet (27" X 41") Style C.
This MGM classic title was first filmed in 1922 and its popularity led the studio to create a new adaptation ten years later, this time with powerhouse stars Norma Shearer, Fredric March, and Leslie Howard. The bittersweet tale follows Sir John (Howard), who leads a solitary life after his young wife is killed, but promises to raise orphan Kathleen. John eventually falls in love with his ward (played as an adult by Shearer), and becomes enraged when she falls for Kenneth Wayne (March), the son of the man who killed his first wife. It would be filmed once again by MGM in 1941 with Jeanette MacDonald. This very special stone litho poster is from the 1935 release of the film. Shearer's little film was one of the biggest hits of 1932 and the public "demanded" to see it again! It has pinholes in the corners and several on the borders with a few scattered within the image. There were small tears, crossfold separations, and extra folds at the top and bottom. There is a small stain in the credits area and pinpoint ones in March's head. One sheets for this classic title rarely appear, and this unrestored beauty will be a highlight for any serious collector. Fine-.
