    Description

Morocco (Paramount, 1930). Very Fine on Linen. One Sheet (27" X 41") Style A.
Virtually unobtainable, original paper for this classic film is a rarity coveted by any true collector in the hobby, and this piece would be the highlight of their collection. So exceedingly rare that less than a handful are thought to still exist today, Heritage takes great pride in presenting our first copy of Morocco's remarkable style A one sheet. The storied start of the film's leading lady, Hollywood legend Marlene Dietrich, goes something like this: Berlin, 1929. Director Josef von Sternberg, while enjoying a cabaret show one evening, is instantly and irreversibly mesmerized by one magnetic performance. He immediately recognized Dietrich's undeniable star presence, and cast the young actress in his next production, The Blue Angel. That film became a major hit and made Dietrich an overnight, international sensation. From there, he signed her to a contract and brought her to the US for her American movie debut, Morocco. Aided by some of the best cinematography of all time, Dietrich would leave audiences spellbound by her sensuality, her deep voice, her cross-dressing sense of style and her confidence while kissing another woman (it was still pre-Code Hollywood). As the cabaret singer Amy Jolie, Dietrich ensnares men of all types, captures the heart of a millionaire (Adolphe Menjou), but falls for the womanizing Legionnaire Gary Cooper. Dietrich absolutely smolders on this much sought after one sheet, joined by portraits of her two rivaling lovers, all in beautiful stone lithograph printing. Not much touchup was needed for such an exceptional poster as this, with the only repairs being to the folds with a few very minor chips. The left border has been airbrushed, and there is partial airbrushing in the top and bottom borders, completing this piece's professional restoration. Very Fine on Linen.
