    Description

    Audrey Hepburn Polish Lot (CWF, 1959 and 1969). Polish Posters (2) (24" X 33", and 22.75" X 32.75").
This lot includes two vintage Polish posters for Audrey Hepburn films. Love in the Afternoon has a wonderfully simple but effective design by an interesting Polish artist, Wojciech Fangor, done for the Polish release in 1959. The photo chosen, of Hepburn longing to be with her older lover, Gary Cooper, is printed in black and white. Fangor has cleverly encased her with a symbolic butterfly design in full color. Note that the vibrant colors extend past the broad outline of her wings, in her rite of passage from a flighty, innocent girl to a young woman in love. Fangor's work is always in demand...East of Eden, Carmen Jones, The High and the Mighty, Rashomon, just to name a few. The poster has only a faint print stain in the credit, and filled in pinholes in the corners. The second poster is for Stanley Donen's Two for the Road done for the 1969 release of the film in Poland. It's the work of the prolific and fanciful artist, Jerzy Flisak. Flisak produced hundreds of posters from the 1950's on, for everything from Wild Strawberries and Roman Holiday, to El Dorado and Young Frankenstein ! The poster has only some mild surface crinkles, and a single small stain in the bottom right. The overall grade is VF.
