    Description

Big Brother & the Holding Company at the Avalon Ballroom (Family Dog, 1966). Concert Poster #14(3) (14" X 20") 3rd Printing. Rock and Roll.
Featured is one of the most popular concert posters in the Family Dog series. In-house artists Stanley Mouse and Alton Kelley appropriated the design of Zig-Zag, a brand of cigarette rolling papers, even when they knew it was copyright infringement (the company did nothing and enjoyed the free advertising). The ironic twist is the poster became so popular that it was the first poster in the Family Dog series to be pirated, much to the dismay of manager Chet Helms. An unrestored concert poster with a clean overall appearance. It may have general signs of use, such as slight edge wear, minor corner bends, and light smudges. This post-concert 3rd printing is on different paper, has 14(3) to the left of the Film Dog '66 credit, and omits the Bindweed Press credit. Please see full-color, enlargeable image below for more details. Very Fine+.
