DescriptionRobot Monster (Astor Pictures, 1953). Insert (14" X 36") 3-D Style.
If there was ever a challenger to Plan 9 From Outer Space for the worst film ever made, it has to be Robot Monster. In fact, only its inspired use of 3-D (which was apparently the only thing the producers spent money on) keeps it from hitting rock bottom. You have to love the Ro-Man (wearing the cast-off gorilla suit from other low-budget fare and a fish bowl for a helmet). The rare insert poster format in this lot is fun too, as it uses art very liberally borrowed from The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms. Professionally restored, this poster once had a few mild tears in the border and background, as well as a tear from the lower border into the lower text box. Due to being a 3-D movie poster, it was not uncommon for theater owners to snipe over the 3-D advertising text if their theaters were not equipped with the technology. Such was the case in this poster, which has had the snipes removed and received airbrushing in the 3-D texts and surrounding red background. The borders have also been airbrushed, and there is a small post-restoration bottom right corner bend. Fine on Paper.
Estimate: $1,200 - $2,400.
