    Description

Revolt of the Zombies (Academy, 1936). One Sheet (27" X 41").
This is an extremely rare one sheet to the first release of this early zombie thriller, billed as "The Weirdest Love Story in 2000 Years." This is a Heritage first and we are unaware of another copy of this poster for the film selling in auction previously. Planned as a follow-up to the Halperin Brothers' phenomenally successful White Zombie and directed by Victor Halperin, the film is set in Cambodia following World War I. The story features an evil Count who has come into possession of a way to transform dead men into walking zombies. A group of people come to Bangor Wat in hopes of stopping the Count, who has created a race of undead slave laborers. Unfortunately, one of the group, played by Dean Jagger, has secret plans to create his own group of zombies. The film was distributed by the very small Academy Pictures and no doubt received a very limited run, thus the reason for the rarity of the posters. The risque nature of the image itself says the poster must have had a limited distribution! We are offering eight of the original lobby cards in this auction as well. There was a small hole in the right border into the background, a minor tear in the lower border, two tears in the image, and the borders were folded back. Touchup has been applied to the folds, and the borders have some airbrush work. Fine/Very Fine on Linen.
