    Description

Douglas Fairbanks (United Artists, circa 1918). Personality Poster (22" X 28").
Douglas Fairbanks began acting in Denver at an early age, and found success in summer stock as a teenager. He made the move to New York to pursue a stage career, where he made his Broadway debut in 1902. By 1915, Fairbanks and his first wife and young son, Douglas Jr., relocated to Hollywood, where the actor signed a contract with Triangle Pictures under the direction of D.W. Griffith. With his dashing good looks and athleticism, Fairbanks' popularity soared, and by 1918 he earned the distinction of third highest paid actor in film. In 1916 Fairbanks met Mary Pickford, who by 1920 would become his second wife, with the pair being hailed as "Hollywood Royalty." A rare find from the actor's early career, this poster features a light hearted image of Fairbanks. The piece has paper loss in the top left and bottom right corners, edge wear with tears, creasing, pinholes in the borders and image area, and scratches in the lower border. Folded, Fine.
