DescriptionPhebus Vehicles (c. 1898). Fine- on Linen. Advertising Poster (43.5" X 58.25") Jean "Pal" de Paleologue Artwork.
Named after the Greek god that drove the sun across the sky in a flaming chariot, Phebus motor vehicles and bicycles were a popular brand in France during the late 1890s. Noted commercial artist Jean de Paleologue, known as "Pal," advertises both in this gorgeous illustration with well-known characters from the commedia dell'arte to catch the public's attention. Benefitting from professional restoration, this 120 year-old stone litho poster once had edge wear, creasing, as well as tears and chipping in the borders and interior. The borders have been airbrushed, addressing paper loss along the upper and side borders. Some of these issues are still slightly visible, including a few thin cracks and minute paper lifts. Fine- on Linen.
Estimate: $2,000 - $4,000.
