DescriptionPhantom of the Opera (Universal, 1947). Fine/Very Fine on Linen. First Post-War Release French Grande (46" X 63") Constantin Belinsky Artwork.
A timeless classic hailed as one of the best horror novels of the 20th century, Gaston Leroux's The Phantom of the Opera has been adapted for the screen and stage time and time again, leaving audiences breathless with its grand story of murder and obsession. With such an opulent setting, Universal chose the backdrop of Parisian high society as the first horror film to use the bright tones of three strip Technicolor throughout a full feature. A wise choice, as this Arthur Lubin production was nominated for a total of four Academy Awards, winning the categories of Art Direction and Cinematography. To match this "Triumph of Color," as the poster proclaims, Constantin Belinsky created this absolutely stunning illustration of the Phantom in action during one of this story's most iconic, riveting scenes. Offered for only the second time, this poster has had professional restoration applied to some fold wear and separations, pinholes, a few tears, and a couple of chips in the borders. Also corrected was some paper loss in the lower left corner that slightly extended into the black background. Still visible are a few faint instances of image ghosting. Still as vibrant as the day it was printed, this poster is display ready and will make an excellent addition to any collection.
Estimate: $5,000 - $10,000.
