    Description

    Paisan (MGM, 1946). Italian 2-Fogli (39.5" X 55") R. Mancinelli Artwork.
This stirring country-of-origin Italian poster by artist R. Mancinelli brings to vivid life the film Paisan, set in Italy during the Allied invasion of World War II. Six vignettes unfold over the course of 1943 and 1944, through a mine field, a shanty town, a monastery, across the Arno River, Sicily, Rome, and Venice. Directed by master filmmaker Roberto Rossellini, one of the founding fathers of neo-realism, this drama genuinely depicts the perils of war and its immediate aftermath. Gorgeous watercolor artwork lends a softness to the hardships endured by the lead characters of the film on this Italian 2-fogli. There were two censor stamps removed and touched up, and further restoration addressed pinholes in the borders, fold wear with tears, surface paper loss and tears in the bottom white area, and a chip in the bottom border. Fine+ on Linen.

    Estimate: $2,000 - $4,000.
