Description

VIIIe Salon Des Arts Ménagers by Franics Bernard (1931). Fine/Very Fine on Linen. French Event Poster (24.5" X 38.5").
Designed by celebrated French graphic artist Francis Bernard, this 1931 event poster promotes the VIIIe Salon des Arts Ménagers at Paris's Grand Palais, an influential exhibition devoted to innovations in domestic science, industry, and modern living. Bernard's bold geometric composition, combining simplified mechanical imagery with clean Art Deco-inspired typography and design, perfectly captures the spirit of efficiency, technology, and modernism that defined French commercial art between the wars. Airbrushing to the upper area of the poster has addressed a few tears and some staining, with light handling wear and slight toning remaining.
