DescriptionModern Times (United Artists, 1936). Fine. Window Card (14" X 22").
Done as a sort of tragi-comedic commentary on the desperate employment and fiscal conditions many people were suffering through during the Great Depression, Modern Times is one of Charlie Chaplin's most compelling film creations. As the Little Tramp, Chaplin faces, during the course of the film, the complexities of modern industrialization, the lower depths of poverty, and imprisonment for something he didn't do. Not humorous themes, but Chaplin shows us the absurdity of modern life through all this, and makes us laugh. In the midst of this disparity, in touchingly romantic scenes, he meets a lovely homeless girl (Paulette Goddard) and finds love. There are some signs of usage, like light edge wear, foxing into the interior, some surface paper loss at the top right corner, and stains in the top border.
Estimate: $1,000 - $2,000.
