    Description

The War of the Worlds (Paramount, 1953). Very Fine on Linen. One Sheet (27" X 41").
No science fiction collection could be considered complete without such an iconic poster as this ever-popular one sheet, a favorite among sci-fi fans across the decades. Based off of H. G. Wells' classic novel, Producer extraordinaire George Pal updated the story to the present day and replaced the steampunk stylings of the Martian tripods to slick floating space-gliders with cobra heads, but he remained true to the spirit of H.G. Wells, and audiences loved it. Paramount had actually held the rights to the film since 1924, when they began planning for a silent version directed by Cecil B. deMille. The project never found its way to photography, was then offered and passed over by Alfred Hitchcock in 1930, and sat dormant for two decades until Pal picked up the production. Bearing one of the best images in the sci-fi genre, this poster has had professional corrections to some fold wear and separations, pinholes, creases, and small tears and chips.

    Estimate: $2,500 - $5,000.
