World War I Propaganda (The Fatherless Children of France Inc., c. 1917). Fine on European Linen. Trimmed British Poster (20" X 28.5") "Have You Room In Your Heart," Walter De Maris Artwork.
Artist De Maris created a heartbreakingly beautiful poster for war relief ("Have you room in your heart for us."). He was a well known illustrator for such magazines as Harper's, the Saturday Evening Post, Puck, Life Magazine, and numerous pulp magazine covers. So many French fathers had died on the war front by 1915, the government could no longer support widows and their children, so charities were formed. This poster was owned by famous war poster collector Col. E. H. McCrahon. Although backed on linen, no touchup has been applied. Signs of handling include slight edge wear, mild creases, soft surface scuffs, and small tears. There is faint staining along the edges with some surface rippling. The poster is covered with a transparent material that holds a slight gloss. There are grommets attached to the verso. Fine on European Linen.

    Estimate: $400 - $800.
