    Out of the Past (RKO, 1947). Italian 2 - Foglio (39" X 55").
Director Jacques Tourneur delivered a knockout punch to the film noir genre with this dark and atmospheric tale of a private eye hired by a gangster/gambler (Kirk Douglas) to track down his missing girlfriend. Only thing is, the private eye (Robert Mitchum) falls for the girl when he finds her and his betrayal of his boss settles in. This film set the standard for the rest of the film noir genre utilizing such trademarks as the flashback, duplicitous deals, gritty scenes and the ultimate in femme fatales. Mitchum also became the ultimate noir prototype with his sleepy eyes, laconic delivery and "couldn't care less" attitude. Jane Greer, as the double-dealing girlfriend, exudes pure menace and the Italian artist Marino really captures her on this stunning poster. In the upper section, we only see the lower section of her face... and wonder if she's really threatening or could she really be this evil. There is tape on the verso reinforcing a few tiny tears in the borders, some small holes in the corners and in the upper center border. The poster also has some slight toning to the edges. This Italian poster may have the best artwork created for this groundbreaking movie. Very Fine-.
