Oswald the Lucky Rabbit in Great Guns! (Universal, 1927). One Sheet (27" X 41").
It's fair to say that without Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, there would be no Mickey Mouse and no Walt Disney Company. In 1927, young Walt Disney created a new character for Universal, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. Great Guns is the fourth of only nine Oswald shorts Disney made in that year (he would make seventeen in 1928). Disney then asked Universal producer Charles Mintz for a bigger budget, which was rejected. At the end of his contract, Disney left Universal and, having lost ownership of Oswald, began creating new characters, one of which became Mickey Mouse, and of course, the rest is history. This extremely rare one sheet from the earliest years of Disney animation, and the first prototype of the iconic Mickey, would make a fabulous addition to any animation collection. The poster had an area of missing paper in the lower left corner, and chips and tears within the image. It has undergone professional conservation, which has addressed the issues, leaving a stunning poster which displays beautifully. This poster is only one of four Disney Oswald posters in private hands we are aware of, outside of the Disney Studio, and the other three are owned by the Disney Family Museum. From the collection of Pete Merolo. Good+ on Linen.
