DescriptionOnce Upon a Time in the West by Frank McCarthy (Paramount, 1969). Very Fine. Original Acrylic Concept Artwork on Acetate (14" X 17").
This concept artwork by Frank McCarthy would go on to become part of the illustrations on most of the domestic formats. The portraits of the main players, Henry Fonda, Charles Bronson, Claudia Cardinale, and Jason Robards, are the main feature within the piece. As can also be seen in the finished product, McCarthy emphasized Henry Fonda's blue eyes, something Sergio Leone was adamant about during shooting. He specifically planned to shock the audience with Fonda cast as the "bad guy" and counted on the viewers' ability to recognize Fonda's eyes. This artwork shows only a few minor chips in the paint, pinholes, and a very small tear.
Estimate: $1,500 - $3,000.
